How to use Zebra RFD90 scanner in Onix Tool Store, Onix Pick and Pack

Supported in Onix Tool Store and Onix Pick and Pack, the Zebra RFD90 scanner lets you read the QR codes and RFID tags on your equipment or employee card with high speed and accuracy. In this article, you will learn how to connect the scanner to these 2 Onix applications, configure it and perform test scanning.

Important notes:

  • For Onix Tool Store: You can use the Zebra RFD90 scanner in any mode, but you can only configure and test it in the Served mode.
  • For Onix Pick and Pack: You can only use the Zebra RFD90 scanner in the Windows application. The scanner is not supported in the web application.

1. Install 123RFID Desktop

123RFID Desktop is a setup utility application designed for easier deployment of Zebra scanners. Every time you use the Zebra RFD90 scanner, you must first connect it to the 123RFID Desktop on the desktop where you run the Onix applications.

To install 123RFID Desktop

  • Go to 123RFID Desktop Downloads and download the latest version —> A .zip file should be downloaded to your desktop.
  • Extract the .zip file.
  • Run the .exe (or application) file and follow the setup instructions to finish installing.

2. Connect the scanner to your device

For detail instructions on scanner connectivity, kindly refer to the manuals provided by your scanner manufacturer or supplier.

In this article’s example, we connect the scanner via Bluetooth.

3. Connect and configure the scanner to 123RFID Desktop

Connect and then disconnect the scanner

Every time you use Zebra RFD90 scanner, you must first connect it to the 123RFID Desktop before the Onix applications.

  • Open the 123RFID Desktop application.
  • In the Connect module, click on Find Readers.

  • Find your scanner in the list of available readers and click Connect. When it’s connected successfully, it’ll appear in the list of connected readers.

  • Finally, disconnect the scanner in 123RFID Desktop so that you can connect it to the Onix application.

(Optional) Configure the scanner

You can modify the scanner configuration according to your preferences:

  • Switch to the Configure module and choose your scanner.
  • Choose a configuration method that suits your preference.

  • In the Configuration module, review and edit the scanner settings in the General and Modify Data tabs.


4A. Use the Zebra RFD90 scanner in Onix Tool Store

Use the scanner

Make sure you’ve already connected and disconnected the scanner to 123RFID Desktop beforehand, so that the scanner can automatically be recognized in Onix application. To start using the scanner in Onix Tool Store:

  • Open Onix Tool Store application.
  • Log in to your account. If you’ve already logged in, log out and then log in again.
  • The scanner will automatically be available for scanning; you don’t have to take any extra action.

Configure the scanner

Important note: You can only configure and test scanners in the Served mode.

To configure the scanner:

  • Make sure you’ve switched to Served mode.
  • Tap on the hamburger icon on the top left → Open Settings.

  • To connect/disconnect a scanner or adjust its sensitivity, choose Scanner configuration
  • To perform test scanning and ensure your scanner is working properly, choose Test scanner.


4B. Use the Zebra RFD90 scanner in Onix Pick and Pack

Important note: You can only use the Zebra RFD90 scanner in the Windows application. The scanner is not supported in the web application.

  • Tap on the hamburger icon on the top left → Open Settings.

  • To connect/disconnect a scanner or adjust its sensitivity, choose Scanner configuration
  • To perform test scanning and ensure your scanner is working properly, choose Test scanner.
